to the indigenous village of
Shipibo-Konibo community

Days - 14
Ayahuasca ceremonies – 9/10
+ SAMA Dieta
This is Journey, we are about to embark, the Journey of healing and learning from the deepest roots of the Shipibo-Konibo culture. This is not just a Journey, this is transformative experience. We call it 'Plant The Idea'.

Plant the Idea of love, of service and purpose
Plant the Idea that allows you to become what you are called to become.
Plant the Idea that removes all limits in order to fulfill your potential
Plant the Idea that reveals fear that has limited you
Plant the Idea that heals the traumas of the past
Plant the Idea of friendship
Plant the Idea of creativity, new beginnings which can change and heal the place where you live and ultimately the world

It is for you, if...
  • you are in the point in life when you need to heal your past on the deepest level and get clarity in whatever you do
  • you want to heal your body and spirit in the most authentic, yet safe environment of the Amazon
  • you want to be part of the ancient indigenous tradition, and do not want to participate in the spiritual retreats

Together we travel to a small village located 4 hours down the Ucayali River from the city of Pucallpa, Peru. The village we are going to is entirely populated by the Shipibo-Konibo people. We are going to visit the renown and big Levia-Mahua family, who lives in the center of the village.

We will live on their territory, being their guests. We will go through ayahuasca ceremonies together with the maestros of two generations, and get acquainted with their culture and learn.

During the journey, we will have:
  • a daily floral and herbal bath
  • individual herbal treatment based on your intentions and what the maestros see during the ceremonies
  • Sama spiritual diet*
  • facilitation, support and translation during all the journey
  • jungle and boat walk with the maestros
  • connection with the family and the community
  • herbal massages from our maestros
  • fasting (optional)
  • also: single accommodation on the family area, food, fruits and everything...

*The dieta Sama is an integral part of Plant The Idea Journey. In Shipibo culture, Sama dieta and the ceremonies are the whole. In short, dieta Sama means that Shipibo maestro and the patience pick up the master plant to get healing and teaching from it. Normally we are discussing with the maestro after the very first ceremony about what the maestro saw. And based on that, we decide what masterplant is best suited for healing right now.

The picking up of the Master Plant is very important process and this choice cannot be done lightly.

Ayahuasca opens the doors to the infinite teaching of the master plants, to their enormous light and harmony. The success of the Dieta Sama depends also on Ayuni – the discipline of the participants (or ‘dieteros’).

      Maestros

      Fernando Levi Inuma
      Maestro of shipibo-konibo
" I was born in the village Nueva Libertador in Peru. It is the community located on the left bank of Ucayali river. Now I live and work in the village. I work with the sacred plants, cooking the brew of ayahuasca and also do special herbal and floral baths for our guests. I can see what needs to be healed. I can pick up special plants or trees depending on it. I have worked with many cases, but normally we can heal many deceases only with the jungle plants and ceremonies. For some cases it is recommended to have a special spiritul diet Sama.

I help people to get healed and our family helps our community. I am very grateful for that opportunity to work for people, for their health and well-being. "
      Fernando Levi Inuma
      Maestro of shipibo-konibo
" I am a grandfather of Delsy Rodrigez. I was born in a little village and live here for than 30 years. I decided to be curandero, when I was 15 years old. It came to me as dream. I always have been into healing the others, singing the ikaros, learning from the Mother Ayahuasca. My maestro is Pascual Mahua Ochavano. All my life I have been practicing the healing with the ayahuasca, doing the ceremonies, and also I have done many diets with the sacred plants.

I traveled a lot, I’ve always loved to learn. I was a disciple also by maestro Manuel Mahua and maestro Luis Carlos. But my the most important teacher is the Tree of life Noya Rao. Noya Rao gives me power to heal and all knowledge that I have. This is what I live for, to cure people and to teach them the knowledge of the sacred medicine."

      Arrival

You need to come to the city of Pucallpa, Peru. This city is located in the Amazon jungle and usually planes from Lima, Peru fly there every day. Flight time is approximately 1 hour. We recommend arriving in the city of Pucallpa one day before the journey as we leave early the next day.

There are various accommodation and hotel options in Pucallpa. We recommend the hotel Manish Hotel Ecólogico, but there are plenty of other good places you can easily find online. Usually, many hotels in Pucallpa already include a meeting at the airport - but it’s wise to double check with the hotel about this. In any case, write to us about your plans. We have a tradition that we meet journey’s participants in Pucallpa and get to know each other. It may be more convenient if you also check into our hotel or near us, so that in the morning it would be more convenient for everyone to go to the port of Pucallpa.

We will meet on the first day of the journey at 7:30 a.m., in the port of Pucallpa. We will inform the participants of the exact place to meet closer to the date of the journey. Our boat leaves at exactly 8:00 a.m. The price for boat is 20-25 US dollars. Boat tickets are not included in the price of the journey. Then we have to travel down the Ucayali River for 3-5 hours (the exact time depends on the water level in the river). By boat we will cross the border of the Loreto region and get into the deep jungle of the Amazon.

The family will meet us directly upon arrival at the port. Their territory is located about 20-30 minutes on motorcycle taxi rides from the boat pier.

At the end of the journey, the next day we will leave for Pucallppa from the same pier.

      Accommodation

Accommodation is single. If you wish, you can live together, but we recommend that you stay separately, as it is very important to be able to have privacy while working with ayahuasca.

We will live on the territory of the Levi-Mahua family. The territory is quite large, and there is direct access to the Ucayali River. You can walk to this river. The family lives in the center of the territory in a large group of houses. Special houses and rooms have been built for guests, and they are located next to the common house and closer to the river.

Please note that toilets and showers are located next to the cabins, but not directly in them. It is more hygienic and suitable for living in the jungle.

On the territory of the house there is a garden with medicinal plants - the owners themselves produce almost all of them, including a special ceremonial tobacco - mapacho. In addition, there are two malocas on the territory where ceremonies take place.

      Amenities

Living in the jungle has its own characteristics. Electricity is only supplied for several hours a day after sunset. At this point, you can charge your electronic devices. Also on the territory of the center is a small solar battery, which can also be used to charge electronic devices.

      Nutrition

When working with ayahuasca, there are certain dietary restrictions that Shipibo-Konibo always adhere to. For us, the family will cook food, taking into account these restrictions. On the last day, we have a tradition of the participants preparing food for the family as a token of appreciation.
Meals will be both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Please let us know your preferences as well as any food allergies so we can let the family know.

      Communications and the Internet

We do not recommend using social media during the journey, or communicating with the outside world, as this can disrupt the natural healing process taking place. Being in a place like this can be a unique and life-forming experience. We encourage you to take the time to participate in our events, be alone, keep a journal.

However, if circumstances require, it is possible to get in touch. There is a Movistar connection in the center, and a tower with mobile Internet is located in a neighboring village. However, we recommend using this only if necessary.

      Vaccination

Please note that the region where the house is located does not belong to an area with a high prevalence of malaria. For this reason, we do not take any medication related to malaria. However, this is up to you.

An additional recommendation for traveling to this region is the yellow fever vaccination (done every 10 years).

      Security

All buildings on the territory are located on special wooden elevations, which protect residents from various reptiles, including snakes, lizards and insects. All beds are equipped with special mosquito nets, and all windows and sometimes walls are also upholstered with mosquito nets.

The Shipibo-Konibo village itself is very peaceful. You can walk along it, the locals are very friendly and will gladly invite you to their place, give you tea and show you their house. Meanwhile, in order to avoid unpleasant situations, we recommend not to carry large sums of money with you in the village.

      What to bring

      • Flashlight (headlamp) with white and red light. In the ceremony we use red light only.
      • Repellents. We do not recommend the use of chemical repellents. In Pucallpa it is possible to purchase organic repellents at the market. If you have any questions, please ask.
      • Rubber boots - if you want to walk in the jungle, we recommend you to take rubber boots. They can also be bought in Pucallpa.
      • Clothing - shorts / light pants, T-shirts, cap (headwear). Shoes - light sneakers
      • book or notebook for taking notes
      • Musical instruments, if you play them.
      • Drawing materials, paper, pens, etc. During the journey it is very productive to do something creative.

“These ceremonies were different and deeper that ceremonies I have done so far. Maybe it was so deep because we were in the family of maestro, the shaman of the Shipibo-Konibo tribe. We were welcomed very warm, as if we were part of the family. We lived I the special tambos (jungle houses) side by side with the family. The family took care of us as if we were members their own family..."

“The city inhabitants are sceptics. Magic has left the world of cities. But the ceremonies in the jungle make me believe in magic again. But it is not enough. Our head is like a garbage bin. We are sinking in the information flow, and we can’t focus of something that really matters. The jungle journey is the perfect was to clean your head and in the moment of enlightenment to get insights and answers on questions that matter..."
