Maestros

Fernando Levi-Mahua
Maestro (Unan'ya) of shipibo-konibo
"I was born here in Peru, in my native community. My father's name is Fernando, my mother's name is Yolanda. Mom has always been very knowledgeable about medicinal plants. She is a very good herbalist, and can make very strong infusions for any disease. But you should not be surprised, because Yolanda is the daughter of my grandfather Pascual, one of the strongest and most respected shamans that can be found in Peru. I also have a brother and two sisters who also have children of their own. I am married to Delsie, and we have two daughters - Fiorella and Emeli, and a son - José.

Our family is big. My grandfather Pascual gives me knowledge through our Family and is my Maestro. I proudly accept the knowledge and Power of Noya Rao. I remember as a child attending Grandpa Pascual's ceremonies, and learning the traditions of Noya Rao. And now, during the ceremony, I take my son Jose, so that he also learns from an early age.

At the age of 14, I began the serious path of the herbal diet at the initiative of my grandfather. I received the Power in order to share it with those who need it. Grandpa always said that I had a big heart and that I would help people. Now I have grown up and become a Maestro Curandero."
Delsy Ramirez Fasanando
Maestra of shipibo-konibo
" I was born in Peru, in the village, where I live to this day. We are native Shipibo, my whole family lives here. My husband Fernando and I have three children, which makes me very happy. Family is the most valuable thing in our life. Within our family, I pass on ancestral knowledge to my daughters and my son, as I received it from my parents. Knowledge should not disappear, because it has so much value and such opportunities to help those in need of healing.

I decided to take the path of curandero seriously out of love for my husband, sharing his calling as my own. My Maestro is my grandfather Pascual, who first taught Fernando, then me, and now Fernando and I as a married couple. At the moment I have a lot of practice in Medicine to heal the needy, help relatives and friends. Our Family shares knowledge with those who come to us with an open heart."

“These ceremonies were different and deeper that ceremonies I have done so far. Maybe it was so deep because we were in the family of maestro, the shaman of the Shipibo-Konibo tribe. We were welcomed very warm, as if we were part of the family. We lived I the special tambos (jungle houses) side by side with the family. The family took care of us as if we were members their own family..."

“Journey was magic, and as time goes, I see that is still has an effect. I am thankful to the Maesto’s family that hosted us. The family gave us opportunity to open much more and to know more about the world and ourselves. To know who and what we are, and what we want. I feel grateful to everyone that came to my way. And mother of the Shipibo family (Iolanta), and maestro (Fernando), and all the family..."

“Have you have you have you faced your shadows?
The real shadows that lurk within your soul.
That are deeply hidden from your line of sight, not seen to the naked eye?
I thought I had.
I thought I had made sense of my childhood traumas on a rational level – but little did I know, I was still reeling from the spiritual pain..."

“The city inhabitants are sceptics. Magic has left the world of cities. But the ceremonies in the jungle make me believe in magic again. But it is not enough. Our head is like a garbage bin. We are sinking in the information flow, and we can’t focus of something that really matters. The jungle journey is the perfect was to clean your head and in the moment of enlightenment to get insights and answers on questions that matter..."
